From an early age both Dan and I have had a passion for travel and the excitement that comes with discovering something new. Our love of travel was epitomised by our choice to leave our respective jobs at the start of 2016, packing our bags and embarking on a six-month caravan trip up the east coast of Australia. I can still remember driving away from home, thinking that we wouldn’t be returning for at least six months! I was crying tears of happiness – because I was on the trip of a lifetime with Daniel but was also sad to be leaving my family behind for so long. Of course, our little Chihuahua Poppie came along for the trip. I often carried her in a sling and would be stopped by people thinking she was a baby. Poppies’ tiny size made it possible for us to take her literally everywhere, even to the top of Mount Cooroy.
Being sun and ocean lovers, we planned our trip along the Australian Coast. Unsurprisingly, one of our favourite places along the way was Byron Bay. We spent just over two months exploring the hinterland and making our way up the coast to Brisbane. We loved the laid-back feel of the town, the delicious food, the local markets and the best sunrises in the country.
Another of our favourite places was the Whitsunday Islands. We were so lucky to be able to enjoy a seaplane trip out to Whitehaven beach and enjoy the soft silica sand all by ourselves with a delicious champagne picnic hamper. The pilot really had the life though, he just spent the time sun-baking on the plane pontoons.
A week from the end of our trip we flew both our mumma’s up to visit us in Port Douglas. We hired a Airbnb for us all (and Poppie, naturally) and secretly planned a few surprises including a hot air balloon over Mareeba. Mareeba is one of only two places in the whole world where they fly balloons almost every day, the other being Cappadocia in Turkey. Once we got to the landing site both of our Mum’s had guessed what we would be doing and were very excited to board, It was the first time any of us had ever been in a hot air balloon and we didn’t really know what to expect. Once we were up in the air it was so quiet, apart from the occasional blast of gas to lift us up over the treetops. We loved every minute of the experience and even got to go inside the balloon when we landed.
Our love of both travelling and photography is perfectly suited to the medium of Instagram which served to share our experiences with our family back home along with a growing number of like-minded travel enthusiasts. The diversity of our photography and the strong following that ensued attracted the attention of a range of different brand collaborations, which has made it possible for us to continue ticking off new items on our ‘Bucket Lists.’ Each destination holds a new story, and this is something we always try to capture within our photos.
