Coco Cairns, Cocobella Ambassador and Junior Australian Surf Champion shares her favourite places to catch a wave and escape the chill this winter! Plus, check out our top picks to stay for a swoon-worthy getaway.
Double Island Point, Cooloola, Queensland
For Coco there’s nothing better than catching a wave at home with your mates, cranking up the tunes and finding a surf spot not typically known to tourists. Double Island Point serves up classic A Frames and is only accessible by 4WD through the Great Sandy National Park. It’s white sandy beaches ribbon from the headline, providing a surf break that seems to stretch on forever. ‘DI’ as it’s known to locals provides Coco her favourite memories of classic beach days.
Travel Tip: Escape the tourist throng and try Rainbow Beach, north of Noosa Heads, for a relaxed beach vibe. We are swooning over this light filled AirBnb oasis. Hello paradise:
Restaurants, Tavarua, Fiji
If being surrounded by pristine beaches and world class surf breaks on a private island sounds like your jam then you may want to visit one of Coco’s favourite breaks in Tavarua, Fiji. ‘Restaurants’ claimed a spot in her heart after surfing 4-5ft clean waves on a family holiday during covid lockdowns, it certainly doesn’t sound like a bad place to be stuck.
Travel Tip: If you have dreamed of staying on a private island almost to yourself, check out Tavarua Island Resort, one can dream…
Cabarita, NSW
Northern NSW is the home to some of Australia’s most iconic destinations, surf breaks and world-famous surfers (think Byron Bay, Snapper Rocks and Mick Fanning!). But Cabarita doesn’t require the limelight of its more well-known neighbours, it prefers to keep secrets, like its long right-hand break that Coco froths and Halycon House, an award-winning beachside hotel only 15 minutes South of Gold Coast airport. Take us away…
Noosa, Queensland
Some of Coco’s fave waves, ‘pot’ and ‘hippies’, are right on her doorstep in the must-visit town of Noosa. Its surf is as classy as the town itself, which is humming with vibrant cafes and restaurants, dreamy sunsets, and breezy ocean walks, it’s no wonder it is one of the most coveted holiday destinations on the Sunny Coast. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to stylish accommodation, but we couldn’t go past this cabin in the treetops
